It’s a testament to his remarkable journey, both on and off the field, Cotchin’s story is one of unwavering dedication, genuine leadership, and the love he shares with his family. As he gracefully bows out from his illustrious AFL career, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the man whose impact extends far beyond the goals and trophies.

At the core of Trent Cotchin’s identity lies his unbreakable bond with his family. Married to his high school sweetheart, Brooke, Cotchin’s commitment to his wife and their three children, Harper, Mackenzie, and Parker, is awe-inspiring. Despite the pressures of being an AFL star, Cotchin has managed to carve out precious family moments and the most simple moments are the ones he loves where he told us “Our mornings are always the best.. If I don’t have an early start, I get up and play with the kids, have breakfast, play some more and maybe shoot up to the local cafe. These are my favourite times”

AFL Career: A Trailblazer and Captain Extraordinaire
Cotchin’s journey in the AFL commenced when he was selected as the number two draft pick by the Richmond Football Club in 2007. It didn’t take long for his talents to shine, as he quickly established himself as a key player in Richmond’s midfield. But it wasn’t just his on-field prowess that caught the eye – Cotchin’s leadership qualities were evident from the start. In 2013, he was appointed captain, a role he would embrace with unparalleled dedication.
Under his leadership, the Richmond Tigers transformed from a struggling team to a powerhouse. The crowning achievement came in 2017 when Cotchin led his team to a historic premiership victory, ending a 37-year drought and then led to two more premierships in 2019 and 2020. His leadership style, characterised by humility, hard work, and a fierce determination, earned him the admiration of teammates, opponents, and fans alike.
Retirement: A Farewell Filled with Grace
As with all great journeys they must come to an end, surrounded by his family Trent Cotchin announced his retirement from the AFL yesterday in a manner befitting of his character. With gratitude and humility, he expressed his appreciation for the sport that had given him so much.
But beyond the trophies and titles, it’s his love for his family, his exceptional leadership, and his dedication to being a remarkable father and husband that define him. His wife Brooke went onto pinpoint some of Trent’s qualities, “He has so many amazing qualities. Trent is very patient and calm person which I think has rubbed off on the kids. Nothing seems to really faze him and he is always more then happy to share the load which not only helps me out enormously but it is very special to watch”
