How Reuben Cotter’s Donation Made a Real Difference
When Reuben Cotter was crowned last year’s Celebrity Sports Dad of the Year, he didn’t just take home the title—he paid it forward. The Cowboys co-captain and proud father, who now has three children after his wife MacKenzie recently gave birth to their baby girl Pippi, matched his $5,000 award with a personal donation, bringing his total contribution to $10,000 for his chosen charity, Brighter Lives Foundation in Townsville.

A year on, that generous gift has made a real difference.
We caught up with Stephanie Naunton, Chief Executive Officer of Brighter Lives, to hear how the funds were used.
“Thank you to Reuben Cotter for his generous donation to Brighter Lives. After winning last year’s Sports Dad of the Year, Reuben personally donated another $5,000, making a total contribution of $10,000. This amazing donation went a long way to support birth simulation equipment to assist with breech births. We thank Reuben and his support to the foundation and all the partners that made it happen.”
Brighter Lives is the official charity partner of Townsville Hospital and Health Service, helping to fund essential medical equipment, research, and patient programs across North Queensland.

While Reuben Cotter was recognised last year as the Celebrity Sports Dad of the Year, his story highlights the broader impact dads can have—both at home and in their communities.
